Reviews: Cellarscape – 'Copilot' EP (2006)

"Copilot is for those who are looking for the deeper meaning to our frustrating, dysfunctional and wonderful world. Cellarscape makes you think. The words make you think. The changes in tempo, rhythm and texture make you think."

HorneyM - Apple iTunes (Oct 8, 2008)

"There's so much music on the market at the moment, but somehow Cellarscape still sounds unique. Great vocals, and I'm loving the lyrics."

- Channel4.com (Nov 19, 2006)

"This guy rocks my world! I've seen Cellarscape live a couple of times and the way he can make an acoustic guitar sound like a whole band is amazing! Bought the EP which includes these tracks and the way he has developed them from his live sent is inspired. A multi-layered assault on the eardrums – in a very good way. The future's bright people, the future's Cellarscaped!"

"Mr Cellarscape is one popular chap. Last time I reviewed his work – on that occasion, the sumptuous ‘Fifth Phoenix’ EP – a veritable mob of ardent Cellarheads descended upon the C.Y comment section to proffer up their words of adoration. And it’s understandable when you hear the 'Fifth Phoenix’ predecessor – the soon-to-be-reissued ‘Copilot’ EP.
A shifting tapestry of moods and images, tracks range from the radio-ready regret of ‘Static’ to the subdued shimmer of quiet gem ‘Wearing Masks’. ‘Repeat, Erase, Unite’ is a highlight, with its foreboding guitar and awesome vocal crescendo; ‘In Your Own Way’ has a pleasingly major-chord road movie feel. The lyrical stand-out is ‘Pulse’…but you’ll have to head to iTunes if you want to discover the lovely wordplay therein: what am I? Lyricsmania?
Cellarscape is making an ambitious bid for the hearts and minds of alt/acoustic/emo fans everywhere. On this evidence, even if you’re not already a diehard, you should prepare to be turned into a web-scribbling fanatic pretty much overnight."

Megan Hockley - Control Yourself (Nov 24, 2007)

"Songs of desolation that echo with mood and meaning."

"A fine collection of songs that really grow on you after a couple of listens through. The kind of thing you expect to hear in the background of a top-quality indie movie like 'Garden State' or 'Donnie Darko'. Recommended."
